Leo Nilsson

Leo Nilsson, Swedish composer and musician, born in Malmö 1939. Educated at the Royal Collage of Music in Stockholm – pianist, organist, music pedagogics and composition studies by K-B Blomdahl, I. Lidholm B. Wallner, G. Ligeti. In Paris at GRM for P. Schaeffer, in Cologne WDR with H. Eimert. Leo Nilsson is one of the pioneers who introduced concrete and electronic music in Sweden, early 60-th. Active in Fylkingen, the electronic music studio EMS, the studio at KMH, started a studio for education at Stockholms Skoldirektion, Studio Andromeda and Studio Viarp. Leo has worked with instrumental and electroacoustic music but also in combinations to film, dans, theater, installations, sculpture, art, architecture and multimedia.

Engaged in concerts together with musicians as K-E Welin, G. Englert, M. Kagel, G. Ligeti, D. Tudor and J. Cage. International performances in France, Italy, Germany, Japan and America. Tours for Swedish Rikskonserter with electronic music and multimedia. Involved in developing new instrument and sounding sculptures, engaged in environment and soundscape projects. Research at the Royal Swedish Academy and University of Lund. Professor several years in composition, music acoustics and music psychology at the Royal Collage of Music in Stockholm. Member of the association Swedish Composers FST, and STIM. Published the books Musikens Väsen and Musikens Aforismer at THEMIS-förlag Sweden.
